The 5 Most Beautiful Sights to See in Central America

Traveling to Central America and not sure what to see first? Let me tell you from experience: Central America is amazingly beautiful, but there’s lots more to see than what I managed to squeeze into a week-long vacation. I partnered with Expedia to show you what some of my dream sights in Central America would be if I ever made it back there.  Let’s start with these five.

1. Belize’s Beaches

I’ve always loved the sound of Belize. The photos of its crystal clear waters have me convinced that if I visited Belize, I would spend most of my time with my face underwater. According to Travelchannel.com, your best bet for some of the best snorkeling and diving in the country is Glover’s Reef Atoll in Southwest Caye. While in Belize, I’d also make sure to visit the Great Blue Hole.

2. Tikal, Guatamala

While I love the views of crystal clear waters, visiting an ancient Mayan city is also something on my bucket list. Tikal is one such set of ruins that was once the largest of all the Mayan cities. The city features six temples that you can climb to the top of, allowing you to overlook the awe-inspiring scenery. That pushes this set of Mayan ruins to the top of my must-see list, not to mention that Tikal supposedly has some of the most spectacular sunsets.

3. Ecopark Kantun Chi

While located in Mexico, I think this destination is worth mentioning. The Katun Chi is an ecological park in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. It’s a collection of underground caverns and pools that you can kayak and snorkel through. How fun does that sound? If you want, you can don your swim suit and take a dip in the crystal clear waters. There are even hammocks strung up around the park to relax in. I can only imagine how relaxing this park can be.

4. Flamingo Beach, Costa Rica

If I’m headed to Central America, I’m obviously going to hit up more than one beach. A popular spot in Costa Rica is Flamingo Beach. It’s a mile-long beach that offers scuba diving year-round. Sign me up! As long as I’m here, I might as well lavash myself in upscale amenities by booking a room at the neighboring Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa. And, of course, I won’t want to miss the sunset!

5. Isla Mujeres

If I’m visiting around Mexico and Central America, then I’d be sure to hit up Isla Mujeres close to Cancun. This little piece of paradise is where I’d want to be for adventure sports, featuring everything from ziplining to scuba diving and snorkeling. Of course, I’d also save some time to visit the nearby temple honoring the Mayan Moon Goddess.

There’s my list. If you want a look at even more fantastic Central America attractions, I suggest checking out this Expedia Viewfinder Gallery complete with breathtaking photos of Central America.

Where would you choose to go if you had the chance to visit Central America?
