Fall in Love in Great Britain

Counties

London has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember (I imagine this is the case for most of the world!), yet other than spending way too much time in Heathrow airport during a layover, I haven’t yet had the chance to visit Great Britain.

I think the main reason I haven’t made it to London is because after living in NYC for two years and currently residing in the center of hedonistic Madrid, when planning my trips I tend to find myself attracted to the idea of visiting smaller, less chaotic locations as a much-needed break from my hectic city life.

As I’ve mentioned over and over on this site, the one thing that can make-or-break a vacation for me is the friendliness and open-mindedness of the locals. A destination can have the most breathtaking mountain or ocean views and delicious local cuisine, but if the people I meet aren’t particularly warm and open, there’s a good chance that I won’t be heading back there.

As I start to plan my travels for the rest of 2015, I was surprised to find out that Great Britain’s town of Brighton might be the ideal city break for me in the coming months; not only due to its enchanting seaside location and small town appeal, but also because of its friendly and open local culture. A good friend of mine assures me that it would be perfect fit for me due to its artsy vibe, music scene and tendency to attract quirky (read: AWESOME) people.

Although not a member of the LGBT community myself, I’m a strong believer in equality and human rights, so I was absolutely delighted to find out via VisitBritain‘s new “Love is Great” campaign, that there is a thriving LGBT community in Brighton, as well as in many other cities like Birmingham, Cardiff and Manchester.

Regardless of your personal preferences, I’m sure you’ll find this new video as romantic and inspiring as I did, and I hope you’ll join me in planning a trip there during 2015!
