I was first enchanted by Toledo Spain last year when I took a quick day trip there, shortly after moving to Madrid for the first time. This adorable and historic town is impossible not to fall in love with due to its winding cobblestone streets and stunning city views, but personally I can’t get enough of its quaint Spanish charm and architecture.
I decided to head back to Toledo for a holiday weekend specifically to attend a Romeo Santos concert (any of my readers fellow Bachatero/as?!) but I decided I also needed a relaxing break away from Madrid’s chaos.
The famous phrase “Madrid me mata” (Madrid kills me) definitely exists for a reason, and although I’ve never felt so at home in any city in my life, it’s always good to refresh the soul with a little fresh air and some time out from city life.

When I started looking into hotels in Toledo, I realized that it has a few stereotypical 5-star commercial brand hotels that cater solely to foreign tourists, but in my opinion why travel to another country or city just to have the exact same hotel experience that you could have anywhere else?
Personally I don’t care much for the cookie-cutter hotels; what makes a trip truly unforgettable is when the hotel gives you an authentic taste of the local charm, culture and history.
This is exactly why I chose to partner with Hotel Pintor El Greco, of Sercotel Hotels, since their understated rustic and modern elegance combined with its early-renaissance El Greco architecture and artwork provides a completely immersive cultural experience.
The hotel is in a renovated 17th-century building in the historic Jewish Quarter of Toledo, is located only a few feet away from the El Greco Museum, and is within walking distance of everything you could possibly want to visit in Toledo.
The reception desk is open 24 hours, there is a breakfast buffet and cocktail bar, and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I adored the rustic wooden beamed ceilings and the incredible Greco artwork found in practically every nook and cranny of the hotel![/vc_column][/vc_row]
Things to keep in mind:
There is WiFi in all of the rooms, which sometimes isn’t the case in Spain, and there is private parking for 18 euros/day, which you’ll probably want to use if you have a car considering most of the on-street parking is only for local residents.
Also, the hotel’s organic regional wine is DELICIOUS (and affordable at 12 euros for 2 bottles,) so I highly recommend buying some from the reception desk to take home with you. I can say after living in Madrid for the past year and a half, I’ve gotten a bit spoiled with drinking amazing red wine at seriously low prices, but I have to say this one is particularly lovely and totally worth it!
