What to Pack in your Travel Health Kit

When planning for a trip, a health kit is not often the primary thing most people think to pack. Considering the variety of sickness that can occur while traveling, it is important for people to keep in mind to pack a small personal medical kit filled with all of the items that you might need to treat any conditions that may occur. But don’t think you need to haul all these items along with you every time, after all there’s a difference between a trip to rainy London and a stay in sunny Australia. Think through the trip and buy what you need in adequately small portions.

What do you pack then inside your travel health kit?

In case of minor injuries during your trip such as when your trekking; make sure to have antiseptic with gauze squares, non-adherent dressings, bandages, fabric plasters, adhesive tape, scissors, tweezers and safety pins and tick removers. You can always buy spray bottles of standard antibacterial solutions from all major chemists like Chemmart Online Pharmacy, or get antiseptic wipes which can be used in sanitizing almost everything.

Make sure to pack sunscreen with at least SPF30 with UVA protection; look for a sunscreen that contains at least one of the following: ecamsule, avobenzone,oxybenzone, titanium dioxide, sulisobenzone, or zinc oxide. Any of those should do the trick. Don’t forget to check as well if its water and sweat resistant if you’re planning to go sun bathing at Byron Bay or surfing at Torquay. Best include as well an insect repellent spray to protect you from those pesky mosquitos that attacks from dusk till dawn. Research shows that products containing the chemical DEET are the most effective insect repellents and is safe when used correctly.

For medicines, you can bring some over the counter antihistamine which can be used for allergies and insect bites. It’s up to you if you prefer tablets, creams or nasal sprays. Analgesic for pain relief such as paracetamol or aspirin. You might want to have motion sickness tablets inside your bag or purse if you’re planning on taking a cruise or a simple boat ride. Pack some cold and flu medicine if you have small kids with you whose immune system often gets affected easily by changes in the temperature. Anti-diarrheal medication is also a must have if you have sensitive stomach; after all you wouldn’t want to spend your holidays sitting on a porcelain throne right? You can also bring some throat lozenges or throat sprays if there still space as these might come in handy if you’re planning on belting out some karaoke action.

If you have maintenance medicines, make sure that you don’t forget to bring those over as well. You might have a hard time filling those maintenance medicine if you run out of it plus who brings prescription during their holidays? All of this will just be more or less a pound in weight but as they say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
