Viva Las Vegas

It’s more than just the gambling capital of the world

A report by Hotels.com shows that Las Vegas topped a recent poll as the most popular city in the U.S. for the third year in a row, beating New York City and Orlando. While NYC is known as a culturally diverse place, home to Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, and Orlando is every kid’s dream, bursting with amusement parks and beaches, Las Vegas is often pigeonholed for offering two things: casinos and its vibrant night life.

But there’s more to Sin City than meets the eye. For many, Las Vegas is where dreams come true – a place where untold experiences await travelers with open arms. Here are some of the things you can look forward to seeing in Las Vegas, without confining yourself to the Strip:

1. The Fremont Street Experience

Found in downtown LV, the Fremont Street Experience treats viewers to a show of 12.5 million lights and 550,000 watts of sound every night. Starting at 6pm, the light shows continue until midnight. There are also free concerts and special events going on throughout the year.

2. Mini-New York in Las Vegas

Unfortunately for New York, Las Vegas is on its way to stealing most of its thunder. DialAFlight reports that MGM Resorts International has released its plans to create a Big Apple-style public park and promenade in Las Vegas, featuring replicas of the Brooklyn Bridge, Madison Square Park, and even a beer garden.

3. The Shark Reef Aquarium

Located in Mandalay Bay, the Shark Reef Aquarium prides itself in not being a typical aquarium, offering a total sensory experience that makes visitors feel as though they’ve been transported underwater. There are fourteen exhibits filled with more than 2000 unusual and dangerous fish.

4. The Mob Museum

The Mob Museum takes visitors on a strange and eerie trip down memory lane. Established by former federal agents, the Mob Museum depicts the long history of organized crime and law enforcement in the United States. The museum exhibits artifacts and pieces of evidence collected throughout the years, allowing tourists to get an inside look into the lives of infamous and notorious criminals, and how they were caught.

Las Vegas is well on its way to shedding its old reputation of having nothing else to offer than casinos. With more cultural and educational establishments set to be established in the city, Sin City is sure to continue to outshine New York and Orlando.
