Bombarded by Booty in Brazil

You can’t take a trip to Rio de Janeiro Brazil without seeing a little booty.

Seriously! On my recent trip to Brazil I couldn’t help notice that it was everywhere:  On the beach. Portrayed in street art. Drawn in the bathroom stalls.

I was surprised at how comfortable Brazilians seemed with butts. Women of every shape and size flaunted their backsides in thong bikini bottoms without a second thought about cellulite (only on the beach, of course).

Naked women were portrayed in street art all over Santa Teresa, an artsy neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

I even saw an entire bathroom stall decorated with hand drawn sketches of naked women, but not in a tacky way – just in a “Hey, women’s bodies are cool” way.

It got me thinking about how people would react to so much nakedness in public here in the U.S.

I know you can find it in museums, and the occasional forward thinking trendy cafe, but in most places I think a lot of people would find it crude, tacky or out-of-place.

I’m not gonna lie – I found it funny and a bit awkward at first. But then I realized it was actually pretty cool because by removing the taboo, I was able to see those naked bodies as more than just a sexualized depiction of women; instead they were merely a testimony to the beauty of real women’s bodies. Our curves actually are gorgeous if you stop and think about it, and every body is unique. Talk about brilliantly designed! With so many shapes and colors, there’s no wonder they make for such incredible street art.

Maybe because I’m not a man, but I was forced to look at those half naked women on the beach differently…I stopped mentally comparing myself and my inner monologue shifted to something like this:

“WE ALL HAVE BUTTS, and that’s pretty freaking great. Moving on.”
